Biovet student Rebecca talks to Farming Life about her American dream
4 January 2023

The passion for poultry her placement year inspired has shone through for this Harper Adams student in an interview with Farming Life.
Rebecca Kelly, a final year BSc (Hons) Bioveterinary Science student from County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, spoke to us in 2022 about some of her experiences visiting the United States during her placement year.
In this latest piece, she discusses how her time in America made her think about the poultry industry in her native Northern Ireland - and how it can change the public's view of its work.
She tells Farming Life: “As I took off out of Atlanta Airport on my return home, I counted 72 poultry farms before rising above the clouds. Landing in Belfast none were counted. A clarification for me that there is a gap in the market in Northern Ireland, not only for poultry farmers, but for poultry breeders.
“The gap is openly led by consumer perception. I strive to change the perception of consumers in Northern Ireland. Not only by showing the benefits and advantages of our poultry industry, but by demonstrating the care and compassion we give our birds.”
